Thread: Repower

    Default Repower

Purchased a 31. Looking to repower with 300's. Anyone know the performance of the Suzuki DF300's on this boat. Anyone run these motors? The yammys are probably out of my price range. Thanks.

Just put Twin 300 Suzukis on my '02 31' YF. Still doing some rigging. Hoping to get it in the water for some testing within the week.

Have you been able to test it since the repower? Any performance numbers you can share?

No testing yet. Got caught up in some parts issues with the Browns Point Marine. They were completely wiped out in Hurricane Sandy unfortunately and the cables I need have been hard to come by. I did finally get everything, so I'm having the helm/control module programmed tomorrow and hope to be on the water this weekend. Will post numbers when I get them.

Got it. I have 05 with Suzuki 250's on it and really like them. Thinking that this coming year will be an overhaul of the electronics and 2014 will be the year to replace the engines. Suzuki would be best because it's what it has now. I know my performance with the 250's, so I'm curious to see if the 300's would be worth the extra cost.

I have a 31, 2007 with twin 300 Suzuki engines. WOT is about 58 mph, I get 1.6 mpg cruising at 36-37mph fully loaded (270 gallons of fuel, livewell, 500 pds of ice, 4 guys and gear). I am currently running 4 blade Bravo 1 props, but am still looking for a prop that may help with getting on plane a little easier with a full load as well as a prop that may help me get closer to 2 mpg. I think I am going to need a prop with more bow lift for that to happen, what kind of props do you use with your 250's and what is your performance like?

Finally got home, got the right cables, and got the boat in the water. All I can say is WOW !! The 300 Suzukis brought the boat to life.

    1st run:
150 gal fuel, Motors mounted in top hole (all the way up), 23 pitch Mirage Plus with extra cup, 15-20 mph winds, tested in the river

    3500 RPM, 33 MPH, 2.3+ mpg
    4200 RPM, 40 MPH cruise, 2.0-2.2 mpg
    5200 RPM, 50 MPH, 1.5-1.6 mpg
6200+ RPM (on the rev limiters), 61 MPH, 1.0 mpg

She needs more prop. Next prop sets will be 23 pitch Suzuki 3 blade,23 pitch Rev4 , 24 Pitch Bravo 4 blade
Hope to see 64 MPH WOT and a 4000 RPM, 40 MPH, 2.2+ cruise light.

What pitch Bravos are you running?

24 Pitch, I have tried the following Suzuki props and the bravos have outperformed them all. I would like to try the Rev 4 21 and 19s.

    Rev 4 23 pitch
Suzuki 4 blade 22 and 20s...the 22s were pretty good, but not as good as the bravos
    Suzuki 3 blade 19, 21 and 23 pitch

Let me know how it goes and good luck!

Some numbers (all with 150 gals fuel, 50 degF, 2-4 people, live wells full)

Mirage Plus 23s with extra cup:
    4200 RPM 40 MPH 2.2 MPG
6300 RPM (limiter) 63 MPH - trimmed very low - props lose grip over 60 mph

    Rev4 23s
    4200 RPM 39 MPH 2.3 MPG
6300 RPM (limiter) 59 MPH - able to trim to 30%

    Next set will be Suzuki 16 x 23 x 3 blade
    My expectation would be:
    4200 RPM, 44 MPH 2.2 MPG
    6200 RPM 64 MPH trimmed 30%

If the Suzuki prop above are still on the rev limiter, next set will be Bravo 26s. I want to try the Bravos anyway to see how they carry the boat.
