I know it's not cheap, but the white motors Really look awesome. We did the yellowfin script for the Yamaha logos. I think it turned out pretty good.

Thanks. Do you have a picture of the yellowfin script on the motors. The white would looks good with the light gray or ice blue hull.

Ok guys....I need some opinions on power. I am thinking I should consider going with triple Yamaha 300's. Then if they upgrade the 350's to 400's in a couple of years, the 300's would be easier to sell than the 350's. I know it will be slower, but it should not be too much slower based on weight difference. The 300's should be better on fuel. Any thoughts or experiences?

Throw another 300 on her and call it a day! Gonna be a awesome boat!

Would love too. However, Yamaha does not make a 20 inch shaft. So more difficult to do. Has anyone got an easy fix for quad Yamaha 300's?

will the 20" mid section off the vmax SHO motor work?

It might work, but would be awful expensive and who knows about warranty.

Brian,

If thinking about quads, you should look into the Verado. We have one on our 24 Bay and it is just as impressive as the 300 Yamahas we have on the 36. Maybe even a little smoother and certainly not as expensive. The warranty is good and the Verado has been out long enough to have most of all the bugs worked out.

Congrats on the new build.

I really like the F300's, smooth and sweet. I love the Verado's shifter, controls and OMG the sound!!! Totally go quads and Verados.
(See my build, with Yamahs)

sea shot,

I agree 100% but if the customer absolutely wants yamaha 300's there has to be a way to make 20" shafts for outside motors.

I think the kink with using the sho mid's and lowers is the mechanical shift vs. electronic. You can't get electronic on a SHO

I was wanting to stay with Yamaha. I have always had them and not had any problems.

Also, anybody have any experience with the windlass? I have one spec'd for now. Positives and negative of having one? Does it work well? At issues. I don't anchor a ton. But thought it would be easier that fish the rope out and the ball each time. Also, easy when docking at the islands with the kids. Is it heavy? Is there a spool inside the anchor box? How does it work?

I was wanting to stay with Yamaha. I have always had them and not had any problems.

I know that they have mounted quad Yamahas on the 39, but it required the use of brackets to get the outer motors high enough. I know the feeling about Yamahas and we were in the same mind set. I will say though, after running this 300 Verado on the bay boat, its going to be an even harder choice for us. Both motors are great. Good luck and I hope that you are able to make it work.

Years ago we had a 35 side console contender with a windless. It is ok, but they can be a real PITA! If you get slack in the line when pulling the anchor, the rope will bind and you are playing with the buttons going in and out to get the rope in the locker. For an open boat, I would just use the anchor ball and keep it simple.

Ok. Thanks for the advice. I may just go with an anchor and a ball. That is what I have now.

I have a 2013 quad verado 39'. When ordering the boat we didn't think we'd use the anchor very often so my dad and I went with the windlass below the gunal for aesthetics. Well fast forward a year and a half and we use the anchor all the time.. The windlass below the decks the BIGEST pain in the ass!! If we were building the boat all over we'd defiantly get the windlass on the deck and store the anchor in the locker.. That set up happens to look pretty nice also bc there isn't to much going on on-top of the deck. Good luck with your build, setup sounds sweeet!!

I am not sure I understand completely. Can you explain windlass below the gunnel and above a little more. Do you have a hole in the nose where the anchor comes up and rest under the nose of the boat or a plastic platform where it sits on top or a round chrome pulley that you put the rope in and it pulls it in? Which system do you have?

alora60
10-12-2014, 01:36 AM
I have a "hole in the nose" with the anchor resting in it but if I were building a new boat I'd go with the "round pulley" on the deck and store the anchor in the locker. That option allows you to use the windlass when you need it without taking up to much space. I'll attach a picture of my boat as well as the option that I am recommending tomorrow..

I fished a triple 300 39 last week and it performs fine, although seemed a little slow getting up. Maybe I'm just used to my 36. I test rode Wylie's quad verado boat a few years ago and that was awesome set up. Good luck with her!

What did the triple 300 - 39 top out and was seemed like a comfortable fast cruise? I am really struggling on what power to go with. I am thing maybe quad 300 yamaha's now in order to get back some speed based on the weight I have spec'd into the boat.

DaddyMenace
10-29-2014, 07:45 PM
There are others that know more about the performance than me. It was plenty fast at cruise of 40 mph but just seemed a bit sluggish getting going. The 36 with trips is like driving a sports car , as was the 39 with quads. Go ride one both ways before you finalize. Good luck.

That is an awesome build !
I am building one as well and I am trying to decide between merc quad 300's vs trip yamaha 350's.
Any thoughts?

thank you

I am worried about barking the outside motors with the quads. I got to drive a new 39 last week with trip 350's on it. It topped out at 65 and ran 62 fairly easy. I think I am going to go with that set up instead of quads or trip 300's.

frank

IMHO that boat needs either trip 350 or quad 300. Fully loaded with fuel, ice, crew, tackle may make it a struggle for that boat to get on plane with less power.

Verado is also a great motor, and you can get quad 300's on that boat.

Congratulations on an awesome build; very exciting to see.

Can you give us a time line as to when you put your deposit down, when did boat go into mold, where you are now on build? I have a 42 being built and cannot get my hands around an estimated delivery time frame. THX

Deposit check sent on August 5, 2014. Went into mold end of February 2015. Went into rigging March 30th.

Thanks for th info you ar about 2 weeks ahead of me. Have they given you an estimated delivery date? Have you decided on engines yet? I would go quad 350 Verados, I was on a 39 recently with trip Yamaha 350's and it was a gog off the line, granted the guy never used his trim tabs, but without them nose was in the air for a good 20 seconds before we got on plane. IMO.
